The future may not be very bright for the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max

Is the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max Getting the Axe?

For months, the tech world has been buzzing about Oppo’s next big swing: the Find X10 series. Everyone’s eyes were on the rumored heavy hitter of the group, the Find X10 Pro Max. But if the latest whispers from the industry are true, we might want to temper our expectations.

According to a recent update from the prolific leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Find X10 Pro Max is facing a rocky road. The device is reportedly at risk of being delayed indefinitely or even scrapped altogether before it ever sees the light of day.

The Price Tag Problem

So, why the sudden cold feet? It mostly comes down to the numbers on the sticker. Rumor has it that Oppo was eyeing a starting price of around CNY 7,000 (roughly $1,028 USD). While flagship prices have been creeping up across the board, the sticking point here is the combination of price and silicon. The Pro Max was slated to run on the Dimensity 9600 chipset.

In the fiercely competitive Chinese market, asking users to shell out over a thousand dollars for a Dimensity-powered device—even a high-end one—is a tough sell. There is still a lingering perception that if you are paying premium ‘Pro Max’ prices, you expect the absolute top-tier Snapdragon silicon. Oppo appears to be worried that the market simply won’t bite at that price point.

Chasing the Competition

This move was widely seen as Oppo’s attempt to go toe-to-toe with Xiaomi’s ‘Pro Max’ strategy. Xiaomi found success with its 17 Pro Max last year and is already prepping an 18 Pro Max for a fall release. Oppo clearly wanted a piece of that ultra-premium pie, but the current ‘memory crisis’ and rising component costs may have forced a reality check.

What We Might Be Missing Out On

If the Find X10 Pro Max does get the chop, it’s a genuine shame for mobile photography enthusiasts. The leaked specs were nothing short of monstrous:

  • Primary Camera: A massive 200MP sensor (1/1.3-inch type).
  • Telephoto: A 200MP periscope lens (1/1.28-inch type) for incredible zoom clarity.
  • Display: A choice between a 6.89-inch 2K LTPO OLED or a 6.78-inch 1.5K panel.

Whether Oppo pivots to a different naming convention or simply beefs up the standard Pro model to compensate remains to be seen. For now, it looks like the dream of an Oppo ‘Max’ flagship is on thin ice.
