Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Series: A Record-Breaking Run in South Korea

It’s official: Samsung has a massive winner on its hands with the Galaxy S26 series. In its home market of South Korea, the flagship trio has flown off the shelves, hitting a staggering 3 million units sold in just 118 days. To put that speed into perspective, it took the Galaxy S25 generation six months to reach that same milestone, and the S24 series took even longer. Samsung is clearly hitting its stride.

The momentum started right out of the gate. During the pre-order phase, the S26 series moved 1.35 million units in just seven days—shattering the previous 1.3 million record held by the S25, which had the benefit of an 11-day pre-order window.

The Ultra Dominance

As expected, the high-end Galaxy S26 Ultra is the clear fan favorite, commanding a massive 70% of all pre-orders. While the standard Galaxy S26 and S26+ are solid devices, they are currently left to scrap over the remaining 30% of the market share, suggesting that power users in Korea are overwhelmingly opting for Samsung’s most premium hardware.

Boosting the National Economy

This smartphone success isn’t just a win for Samsung’s balance sheet; it’s providing a tangible boost to the Korean economy. According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, wireless communication device exports saw a 51.9% jump in June compared to last year. The Ministry explicitly credited the strong global sales of the S26 series as a primary driver for this growth.

Why Are Sales So High?

Several factors have turned the S26 into a must-have item. Samsung’s recent “Appreciation Festival” campaign offered buyers 20% cashback in digital gift certificates, providing a significant incentive for fence-sitters to upgrade. Furthermore, rumors suggesting that the upcoming Galaxy S27 series might come with a steeper price tag have created a ‘buy now’ mentality among consumers.

The demand has been so intense that Samsung actually had to bump its July production target from 1 million to 1.5 million units. If you’re trying to snag a Galaxy S26 Ultra right now, you might notice that shipping times have stretched into August, a direct result of this unexpected demand spike.

What’s Next?

While the S26 remains a powerhouse, the focus is starting to shift. With the Galaxy Z foldable unveilings set for July 22, the company will likely re-evaluate its S26 production strategy in August. Whether the foldable hype will overshadow the S26 or simply complement Samsung’s dominant position in the market remains to be seen.
