Tecno Pova 8 unboxing and hands-on
Tecno Pova 8 Unboxing: LED Magic Meets a Massive Battery
The brand-new Tecno Pova 8 has officially arrived, and it’s clear right out of the gate that Tecno is leaning hard into a design-first philosophy for the lower midrange market. But before we dive into the flashing lights and specs, let’s see what’s actually in the box.
Inside, you get the essentials: a clear silicone case to show off that unique back, a 45W fast charger, and a USB-C cable. It’s a solid start for a phone that aims to punch above its weight class.

The centerpiece of the Pova 8 is undoubtedly the Alive Matrix Display. This isn’t your standard notification LED; it’s a dedicated dot-matrix panel living inside its own cutout on the camera island. With 104 individual LEDs, it feels reminiscent of the Nothing Phone series, but with a flavor all its own.

Customization at Your Fingertips
Tecno has pre-built 49 unique animation scenarios for the Alive Matrix, covering everything from incoming calls and texts to gaming spikes and charging status. The best part? You aren’t stuck with just the defaults. You can dive into the settings and tweak the sequences to match your own style, making the phone feel truly personal.
While we’re looking at the back, let’s talk cameras. The Pova 8 keeps it simple but effective with a 50MP main lens utilizing the Sony Lytia 600 sensor. Our Arc White unit looks particularly sharp, featuring translucent elements that give it a futuristic, tech-forward vibe.
Power That Lasts (And Lasts)
One of the most impressive feats here is the battery. Tucked behind that translucent back plate is a gargantuan 8,000 mAh battery. Tecno claims this can power through two days of regular use or nearly 30 hours of straight video streaming. Despite that massive cell, the phone manages to stay surprisingly light and ergonomic—it doesn’t feel like a brick in your hand.

Display and Performance
On the front, you’re greeted by a 6.76-inch IPS LCD. It’s sharp with FHD+ resolution, but the real winner is the 144Hz refresh rate, making animations and scrolling feel buttery smooth. It runs on the new HIOS 16 (based on Android 16), which feels much cleaner and more minimalist than Tecno’s previous software efforts. Plus, the company is promising two major OS updates and three years of security patches.
Powering the experience is a Dimensity 7100 chipset, paired with up to 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of storage. Tecno also included their G1 and SE1 chips to help boost signal strength and Wi-Fi stability.
With a starting price of roughly INR 29,999 ($313), the Tecno Pova 8 is positioning itself as a serious contender for anyone who wants a phone that looks different, lasts forever, and handles daily tasks with ease.
