T-Mobile now allows up to four promotional devices on a single account

T-Mobile Just Made It Way Easier for Families to Switch

If you’ve been eyeing a move to T-Mobile but hesitated because you couldn’t get a deal for everyone in the house, you aren’t alone. For a while, T-Mobile had a frustrating cap that limited new accounts to just two discounted smartphones. For families of four or more, that was essentially a deal-breaker.

The good news? T-Mobile listened to the feedback—largely fueled by complaints from their own sales teams who were tired of turning families away—and decided to fix it.

The New Rule: Four is the Magic Number

Starting this month, the ‘Un-carrier’ has officially doubled its device promo limit. Instead of being stuck with only two discounted phones, new customers can now snag up to four promotional devices on a single account. This shift makes a massive difference for modern households. Before this change, if you had four lines, two people got the shiny new flagship on a payment plan discount, and the other two were left paying full price. Now, the math actually adds up for the whole family.

Existing Customers Get a Win, Too

It’s not just for the newcomers. If you’re a long-time T-Mobile user who scored free lines through the popular ‘Line On Us’ promotions, you’re in luck. You can now use those free lines to grab a promotional device as well, which is a significant upgrade from previous restrictions.

However, there is one small catch to keep in mind. If you secured a free line via a Buy One, Get One (BOGO) offer, those specific lines still aren’t eligible for additional device promos. It’s a bit of a bummer, but for the vast majority of users, this is a huge step in the right direction.

Is Now the Time to Switch?

With the limit increased to four devices, T-Mobile is clearly trying to win back larger households. If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to migrate your family plan, this policy reversal removes one of the biggest hurdles. It’s rare to see a carrier backtrack on a restrictive policy this quickly, so it might be worth checking out their current device lineup before you miss the window.
