The Oppo Find X9 Ultra Just Took Smartphone Photography to the Edge of Space

Last week, Oppo turned heads with the launch of the Find X9 Ultra in China. It didn’t take long for reviewers to realize this thing is a powerhouse, especially when it comes to capturing crisp, detailed shots in basically any lighting condition. But while most of us are happy snapping photos of our dinner or a local sunset, Oppo decided to take things a few thousand feet higher—literally.

In a pretty wild collaboration with the team at SentIntoSpace, Oppo sent the Find X9 Ultra to the very edge of our atmosphere. The goal? To see how those massive sensors handle the curvature of the Earth and the harsh light of near-space. You can check out the incredible footage below:

Hardware That Defies Gravity

It’s one thing to look good on paper, but the Find X9 Ultra’s camera array is genuinely impressive in practice. It features a quad-camera system on the back that would make most professional rigs sweat:

• 200MP Primary Sensor: For sheer detail and depth.
• 200MP Periscope Telephoto (3x Optical): Perfect for those tighter, high-resolution shots.
• 50MP Periscope Telephoto (10x Optical): Unmatched long-range clarity.
• 50MP Ultrawide: To capture the vastness of, well, the entire planet.

On the front, there’s a 50MP selfie camera, though we suspect the Earth wasn’t interested in taking any selfies this time around.

More Than Just a Camera

Under the hood, the Find X9 Ultra is just as beefy. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, making it one of the snappiest devices on the market. The display is a gorgeous 6.82-inch 144Hz 1,440p LTPO AMOLED panel that makes those space shots look absolutely vibrant.

Keeping the lights on is a massive 7,050 mAh Silicon-Carbon battery. Even if you’re stuck in the stratosphere, the 100W wired and 50W wireless charging ensures you’re never out of the loop for long.
