While Xiaomi typically owns that late-summer spotlight, it looks like vivo and Oppo are tired of waiting their turn.

Closing the Gap

Last year, we saw a bit of a staggered release. Xiaomi dropped the 17 series in September, while vivo and Oppo followed up a month later in October with the X300 and Find X9 series. This year? The gloves are coming off. Insiders suggest that both the vivo X500 series and the Oppo Find X10 series are being fast-tracked for a September reveal to go head-to-head with the Xiaomi 18.

Silicon Power Plays: Snapdragon vs. MediaTek

Even if they launch simultaneously, the internal hardware will likely tell two different stories. Xiaomi has a long-standing relationship with Qualcomm, often getting “first dibs” on their flagship silicon. We expect them to maintain a brief exclusivity window for the next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 (and the Pro variant).

To keep pace, vivo and Oppo are expected to lean into their partnership with MediaTek. Rumor has it they’ll be sporting the Dimensity 9600—a chip that has historically proven it can trade blows with the best of Snapdragon’s lineup. This allows them to launch right alongside Xiaomi without waiting for Qualcomm’s supply chain to open up to everyone else.

When Can You Actually Buy One?

Here is the catch: these September dates almost certainly refer to the domestic Chinese launches. If history is any indication, those of us in the international market will have to be a bit more patient. We’ll likely see these flagship devices hit global shelves a few weeks or even months after the initial hype.
