3 new Motorola music handsets
Motorola Reinvents Mobile Audio at the M3 Music Summit
Motorola just turned up the volume in Miami Beach. At the M3 Music Summit, the tech giant unveiled three new handsets designed specifically for people who live and breathe music. This isn’t just about adding a ringtone; it’s a full-scale collaboration with MTV International to bring exclusive wireless content and a premium listening experience directly to your pocket.
According to Geoffrey Frost, Motorola’s Chief Brand Officer, this move is all about closing the gap between artists and their fans. By turning the mobile phone into a legitimate music player, Motorola is aiming to change how we consume media on the go.
The Motorola E398: A Boombox in Your Pocket
The standout for many is the Motorola E398. This isn’t your average candybar phone. It features an integrated MP3 player and something rarely seen in the mobile world: dual 16mm 3D stereo surround sound speakers. To make the experience even more immersive, Motorola included vibration sensory technology and ‘rhythm lights’ that pulse along with your music, games, and incoming calls.
- Storage: Comes with SanDisk T-Flash removable memory.
- Visuals: A crisp color screen and an integrated camera with a flash for low-light shots.
- Fun Factor: Heavy interaction with Java games and ambient noise synchronization.
The Motorola E680: The Multimedia Powerhouse
If you’re looking for a more robust media experience, the Motorola E680 is the heavyweight of the group. With a massive color display and RealPlayer software, it’s built for high-quality video and audio playback. It supports up to 1GB of removable memory, which is plenty of space for your favorite playlists and video clips.
For the gamers, the E680 packs an 8-way navigation key and dedicated gaming buttons, supported by 3D graphics and J2ME™ technology. Getting your files onto the device is a breeze thanks to high-speed USB, GPRS, and Bluetooth support.
The Motorola C650: Compact and Custom
The Motorola C650 is the pocket-friendly sibling that doesn’t skimp on personality. It features a VGA camera with 4X zoom, MPEG4 playback, and a vibrant 65K color screen. What makes the C650 special is the MotoMixer, an app that lets you remix your own MIDI ringtones to create a truly unique sound.
Respecting the Artists
Motorola isn’t just throwing hardware at the wall; they are also playing nice with the industry. The new handsets support the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Digital Rights Management (DRM) standards. This ensures that artists and content providers are protected, giving them the confidence to release premium digital media to the mobile market.
Expect to see the C650 and E398 hitting shelves in the second quarter of the year, with the powerhouse E680 following in the second half of 2004.
