RedMagic Astra 2 Arrives: The Ultimate Gaming Tablet You Need
Meet the RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro: A Portable Powerhouse
While the name is certainly a mouthful, the new RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro is making a strong case for being the most impressive Android tablet of 2026. Following in the footsteps of last year’s RedMagic Astra, this latest iteration is built for raw performance, packing the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and offering configurations up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of lightning-fast UFS 4.1 Pro storage.

For those outside of China, keep an eye out for its upcoming global release, where it’s expected to launch under the branding RedMagic Astra 2.
Display and Performance Specs
The device sports a vibrant 9.06-inch OLED display with a crisp 2.4K resolution. RedMagic has bumped the refresh rate up to a buttery-smooth 185Hz, outdoing the 165Hz panel on the previous model. To ensure your inputs feel near-instant, they’ve paired it with a Synaptics S3930 touch controller, pushing a 300Hz sampling rate.
Under the hood, it’s not just about the processor. RedMagic included their proprietary RedCore R4 gaming chip and a beefed-up active liquid cooling system, complete with visible back vents and—naturally—RGB lighting for that quintessential gaming aesthetic.
PC Emulation Comes to Android
Perhaps the most exciting development is the integration of a custom PC emulator within the Game Space app. This layer allows you to run x86 applications and Steam games directly on the tablet. RedMagic claims you can push these titles at up to 2K resolution and 144Hz, essentially blurring the line between a mobile tablet and a dedicated handheld PC.
Battery and Connectivity
Powering this beast is an 8,300mAh battery paired with 80W fast charging. A smart quality-of-life update is the inclusion of a second USB-C port, making it much easier to charge while keeping your peripherals connected. Note that the primary bottom-mounted port is the only one offering full USB 3.2 specs and the maximum 80W charging speed.
Pricing and Availability
The tablet launches in two colorways: Silver Wing and Dark Night. In China, pricing starts at CNY 4,999 (roughly $736) for the 12GB/256GB base model, climbing to CNY 6,999 (around $1,030) for the fully loaded 16GB/1TB version. Initial orders in the Chinese market are slated to begin shipping on July 7.
