New Leaks Hint at an Expanded Snapdragon 8 Series Roadmap

If you’ve been tracking the latest rumors, you might have heard that Qualcomm is gearing up to launch a pair of 2nm chips under the Snapdragon 8 Elite umbrella—specifically the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 (SM8950) and its powerhouse sibling, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro (SM8975). However, fresh reports suggest that Qualcomm’s roadmap is even more crowded than we initially thought.

According to insights from industry tipster Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm is also working on two additional 3nm processors: a version tentatively dubbed the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5XX (SM8850Q) and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Pro (SM8845 Pro).

What We Know About the 3nm Refresh

Qualcomm originally debuted the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (SM8850) and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (SM8845) last year. While the exact performance gap between these new “5XX” and “Pro” variants remains under wraps, it’s a safe bet that the Pro model will offer a tangible boost in specs over the standard version. Some industry speculation even points to these potentially being rebranded as part of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 lineup upon launch.

What to Expect Next

While official technical specifications for these 3nm chips haven’t been finalized, we do know that the shift to 2nm for the Gen 6 series represents a significant leap forward for mobile efficiency and raw power. Qualcomm has historically utilized its September Snapdragon Summit as the launchpad for its flagship silicon. If history is any indication, we can expect the company to pull back the curtain on these new additions around that same timeframe later this year.

Stay tuned—as these chips move through development, we’ll likely see more concrete benchmarks and device compatibility leaks surface soon.
