First Impressions: Getting Hands-On with the Oppo Reno16

Hot on the heels of our deep dive into the Reno16 Pro, it’s time to turn our attention to the global standard-bearer: the Oppo Reno16. You might expect the vanilla model to be a watered-down version of its sibling, but Oppo has blurred the lines significantly this time around. In fact, if you set them side-by-side, you’d be hard-pressed to tell them apart.

The Reno16 carries over the same striking 6.32-inch display and that signature “3D Pop Planet” design. There’s a distinct, nebula-like shimmer on the back panel that catches the light beautifully—it’s exactly the kind of eye-catching aesthetic we’ve come to expect from the Reno lineup. You can see it in motion over on our TikTok channel.

Oppo Reno16 design details

One area where the Reno series consistently punches above its weight is in mobile photography, specifically selfies. The Reno16 keeps the same impressive front-facing hardware as the Pro. We’re talking about an 18mm wide-angle lens with a bright f/2.0 aperture and a substantial 1/2.75-inch sensor. To put that in perspective, this sensor size rivals, or even outclasses, some of the biggest names in the flagship space, including the iPhone 17 Pro and Galaxy S26 Ultra. If you’re a fan of high-quality self-portraits, this phone is shaping up to be a serious contender.

While the display looks identical to the Pro model’s, there’s a minor technical distinction under the hood. It’s still a gorgeous 6.32-inch, 1216x2640px AMOLED panel, though it tops out at a 120Hz refresh rate. In practice, it’s vibrant, sharp, and a joy to use for daily tasks or media consumption. It feels every bit as premium as you’d hope for at this price point.

Oppo Reno16 display quality

The Oppo Reno16 is hitting the global market with a starting price of €899 for the 8/512GB configuration. If you’re quick, there’s a nice €100 discount for orders placed before July 31. You can choose from three colorways: Pop White, Twilight Violet, and Dream Purple. Inside the box, you’ll find the essentials to get you started: the phone itself, a protective clear case, an 80W fast charger, and the necessary USB-C to USB-A cable.
