Is the Redmi K100 Pro Max Getting a Downgrade? New Rumors Suggest a Chipset Swap

It feels like just yesterday that leaks first hinted at the Redmi K100 Pro Max back in March. Since then, the rumor mill has been relatively quiet, but fresh details from the reliable tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo are finally shedding some light on what to expect—and there is a bit of a twist.

Early reports initially pointed toward the device running on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset. However, the latest intel suggests Redmi is pivoting to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 instead. While a chipset swap might sound like a step backward, it is likely a calculated move. With the ongoing global chip shortage driving up costs for essential components like RAM and storage, Redmi may be opting for a more affordable processor to keep the final price tag competitive without compromising on memory or storage capacity.

What We Know About the Specs

Beyond the processor, the K100 Pro Max is shaping up to be a powerhouse. The design appears to feature a sharp, flat display boasting a rapid 185Hz refresh rate and a modern look with large, rounded corners. While the exact resolution is still under wraps, it is touted as “ultra-high,” suggesting a crisp viewing experience.

Photography enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to as well, with rumors pointing to:

  • Main Camera: A massive 200MP sensor.
  • Telephoto: A 50MP periscope lens for high-quality zoom.

Perhaps the most impressive spec is the power cell. The device is expected to pack a massive battery—at least 9,000 mAh—paired with 100W wired charging to ensure you aren’t tethered to a wall for long. To round out the premium experience, the phone is rumored to include wireless charging, top-tier speakers, a robust vibration motor, and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. Plus, with IP68 and IP69 ratings, it should be highly resistant to both dust and water.

When Can We Expect It?

Since the predecessor, the Redmi K90 Pro Max, made its debut last October, many are betting on an October release window for this new model. While nothing is set in stone just yet, keep an eye out for more updates as we inch closer to the fall season.
