Megapixel phone from Nokia – 7610
Nokia 7610: Stepping into the Megapixel Era
Back at CeBit 2004, Nokia made a move that changed how we look at our phones forever. They unveiled the Nokia 7610—the brand’s very first megapixel camera phone. It wasn’t just a new gadget; it was a signal that mobile photography was finally ready for the big leagues.
As Juha Putkiranta, Nokia’s Senior VP of Imaging, put it at the launch, we are entering a time where camera phones are becoming mainstream imaging devices. And with the 7610, Nokia definitely brought the hardware to back that up.
A New Standard for Mobile Photos
The standout feature here is, of course, that integrated megapixel camera. Delivering 1152 x 864 resolution, it’s a massive leap forward from the grainy VGA shots of the past. The lens is remarkably high-quality for such a slim device, offering a 4x digital zoom and a self-timer. It even holds its own in low-light conditions, displaying everything on a vibrant 65,000-color screen. Plus, if you’re into video, the RealOne mobile player handles real-time streaming effortlessly.
More Than Just a Camera
What’s really impressive is how Nokia is positioning this as a creative tool. The built-in Movie Director app lets you stitch together clips, add music, overlay text, and apply special effects to create 10-minute short films right on the handset. It’s essentially a pocket-sized production studio.
If you prefer editing on a bigger screen, Nokia includes Adobe® Photoshop® Album software in the box. You can also upload your shots to a virtual album via Kodak Pictures or keep an automatic digital diary using the new Nokia Lifeblog app. Printing is just as seamless—hit a button and send your favorite shots to a compatible printer via Bluetooth in seconds.
Sleek Design, Powerful Specs
Under the hood, the Nokia 7610 is a Series 60 powerhouse. It’s packed with 72MB of expandable memory, a solid MP3/AAC music player, and full support for Java and mobile browsing. Despite all these features, it remains a sleek, 118-gram device that looks as good as it performs. Expect roughly three hours of talk time and 250 hours of standby on a single charge.
This tri-band GSM model is set to hit the shelves in Q2 of 2004 with a retail price of approximately €500. Whether you’re a mobile enthusiast or a budding photographer, the 7610 is setting a high bar for the future of mobile tech.
