Google Wallet Now Tracks Your Packages: Here’s How It Works

It might not be the flashiest integration we’ve seen, but let’s be honest: having your package tracking baked directly into Google Wallet is undeniably convenient. If this feels like a bit of a throwback, you aren’t imagining things—Google has dipped its toes into parcel tracking before, most notably back in the Google Now era.

Google Wallet displaying package tracking status

The premise here is straightforward. Google intelligently scans your Gmail inbox to identify digital receipts and tracking numbers. Once spotted, it pulls that data into the Google Wallet interface, putting your upcoming deliveries front and center right alongside your payment cards. It’s a clean setup: you can peek at tracking details, see an estimated arrival, and dismiss items once they’ve safely reached your doorstep (though the system is smart enough to handle most of that clean-up automatically).

Crucially, managing these packages through Wallet doesn’t alter or delete the original emails in your inbox, so you’ll always have your paper trail intact.

What You Need to Know

Before you start refreshing your Wallet, keep these few things in mind:

  • Geographic Limits: For the time being, this feature is strictly limited to users in the United States.
  • Retailer Support: While Google covers most major retailers, your favorite niche boutique might not be supported just yet.
  • Settings Check: You’ll need to head into your Gmail settings and confirm that “Google Workspace smart features and personalization” is enabled. If that’s toggled off, the tracking magic won’t happen.

It’s a handy upgrade for anyone tired of hunting down tracking links in a cluttered inbox. Hopefully, as the feature matures, we’ll see support expand to more retailers and regions.
