Is This Our First Real Look at the Apple iPhone Ultra?

The rumor mill is hitting overdrive as we approach September, and the latest buzz centers on Apple’s long-awaited entry into the foldable market. Expected to debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series, the so-called iPhone Ultra has just surfaced in a fresh set of dummy unit images that give us our clearest look yet at the device’s potential design.

While we have seen glimpses of Apple’s foldable ambitions before, these new images show the device in a striking black finish. The design points to a wide-screen form factor that bears a striking resemblance to the Huawei Pura X Max. If these dummies are accurate, Apple is aiming for some impressive thinness: the unit looks to be nearly as slim as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 when folded, and a razor-thin 4.5mm when fully opened.

Design Highlights

Taking a closer look at the back, you’ll find a clean, minimalist dual-camera setup housed within a familiar pill-shaped module. The device feels like a hybrid, and when you open it up, the expansive inner display gives off major ‘mini-iPad’ vibes. Apple has opted for a hole-punch cutout in the top-left corner for the inner selfie camera, while the cover display sports a centered cutout for quick selfies on the go.

One of the more interesting details lies in the button placement. Apple seems to be shaking things up by moving the volume buttons to the top edge, while the power button resides on the side—with the handy dedicated Camera Control button nestled just below it.

What to Expect Under the Hood

Speculation suggests that the internal power will come from the beastly A20 Pro chipset, likely paired with 12GB of RAM. In terms of screen real estate, we are looking at a 5.49-inch cover display that unfolds into a massive 7.76-inch flexible screen. It is shaping up to be a productivity powerhouse.

Mark your calendars for September 8, when Apple is expected to pull back the curtain on this foldable alongside the standard iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Whether it lives up to the ‘Ultra’ moniker remains to be seen, but the hardware design certainly looks like a bold step into the future of the iPhone.
