Oppo’s Next Move: What We Know About the Find X10 Ultra Cameras

It feels like the Find X9 Ultra only just hit the scene, but in the fast-paced world of smartphone development, the cycle never really stops. Recent buzz coming from Digital Chat Station on Weibo suggests that Oppo is already deep into development for the upcoming Find X10 Ultra.

Since the Find X9 Ultra only launched this past May, we certainly shouldn’t expect to see its successor hitting shelves before the year is out. However, the early whispers regarding its camera hardware are already giving us a glimpse into where Oppo is heading with its next flagship.

A Major Upgrade for Long-Range Photography

The standout detail so far concerns the long-range telephoto lens. Currently, the Find X9 Ultra boasts an impressive 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 10x optical zoom, built around a 1/2.75-inch type sensor. The Find X10 Ultra, however, appears set for a serious hardware boost.

According to the leak, Oppo is moving to a much larger 1/1.95-inch sensor for that same 10x telephoto zoom, while sticking with the 50MP resolution. To put that in perspective, that’s a massive jump in physical sensor size. For mobile photographers, this is a big deal; a larger sensor means more surface area to gather light, which typically leads to sharper, cleaner, and more detailed shots, especially when you are punched in at 10x zoom.

Why This Matters

While this periscope lens will technically remain the smaller of the two telephoto sensors on the device, the gap between it and the short-range telephoto is closing significantly. By increasing the sensor size, Oppo seems intent on pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in mobile zoom photography. We’re eager to see how this translates once the device officially lands in the real world.
