Meet the Bajaj Chetak C25: A Lighter, Zippier Entry into the EV World

Don’t let the nameplate fool you—the new Bajaj Chetak C25 is far from a carbon copy of its older siblings. While it shares the iconic branding, this scooter is built on an entirely different foundation. Bajaj has gone back to the drawing board to create a more agile, city-focused commuter that feels significantly more nimble on its feet.

The Chetak C25 sports a more compact, lightweight frame compared to the 30 series.

Built for the City: Light and Lean

The most immediate change is the weight. The C25 has undergone a serious diet, coming in at 107kg—that is a massive 23kg lighter than the previous models. By shortening the wheelbase to 1225mm and introducing a new frame, Bajaj has made a scooter that is arguably much easier to flick through heavy traffic. It sits on 12-inch wheels supported by telescopic front forks and dual rear springs, ensuring the ride stays comfortable even when the roads aren’t.

Battery, Power, and Real-World Range

Under the skin, the C25 utilizes a 2.5kWh NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) battery pack. Unlike the more expensive models that feature a swingarm-mounted motor, the C25 opts for a straightforward 2.2kW hub-mounted motor. It’s a setup designed for efficiency over raw speed.

If you’re wondering how far it’ll take you, the claimed range sits at 113km on a full charge. When you’re running low, Bajaj’s 750W offboard charger can get you from empty to 80% in about 2 hours and 25 minutes. While the 55kmph top speed won’t win you any drag races, it’s perfectly adequate for navigating tight urban corridors.

Practicality and the “TecPac” Upgrade

Storage is always a big deal for scooter owners. The C25 offers a 25-litre underseat boot—down from the 35 litres found in the premium versions, but still plenty for a helmet or some light shopping. You also get two handy cubby holes up front that can swallow a one-litre bottle each, plus a spacious floorboard for extra legroom.

Out of the box, the scooter features a clean color LCD console and a basic “Drive” mode plus Reverse. However, if you want the full experience, you’ll want to look at the TecPac. For an extra Rs. 3,000, it unlocks:

  • Eco and Sports modes for better performance control
  • Hill Hold to prevent rolling back on inclines
  • Music controls and sequential rear blinkers
  • Guide-me-home lights and customizable display themes

For those who want to stay fully connected, an additional data pack starting at Rs. 1,300 adds a layer of safety and connectivity features, making the Chetak C25 one of the most tech-forward entry-level EVs on the market today.
