Is Your Device Supported? Official iOS 27 and macOS 27 Compatibility List Revealed

Is Your Apple Gear Ready? The iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate Support List is Here

WWDC 2026 has officially kicked off, and with it comes a massive wave of software updates: iOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, iPadOS 27, and watchOS 27. While the new features are certainly the stars of the show, the big question for most of us is: “Is my device actually going to run it?”

Apple has already seeded the first developer betas, giving us a clear look at which hardware made the cut. If you’re wondering whether you’ll be downloading the update this fall, here is the official breakdown of compatibility across the ecosystem.

iOS 27: Who’s Staying in the Loop?

There is some great news for iPhone owners: if your phone is currently running iOS 26, you’re almost certainly safe for another year. Apple is keeping the gate open for the iPhone SE (2nd gen), the iPhone 11 series, and every model released since then.

However, there is a small caveat. While the core OS will run on older models, some of the most advanced Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features are hardware-intensive. To get the full suite of AI capabilities, you’ll likely need a relatively recent model with more powerful NPU (Neural Processing Unit) performance.

iPadOS 27: Requirements for Your Tablet

For the iPad crowd, Apple is ensuring that the software remains snappy by focusing on hardware with more modern architectures. Here’s what you’ll need to run iPadOS 27:

  • iPad mini: 6th generation and newer (including the A17 Pro).
  • Standard iPad: 9th generation and later, including the A16-powered models.
  • iPad Air: 4th generation and newer, as well as M2-powered models and the 13-inch Air.
  • iPad Pro: 11-inch (2nd gen and later), 12.9-inch (4th gen and later), and any model equipped with M4 or newer chips.

macOS 27 “Golden Gate”: The Apple Silicon Standard

Named after the iconic San Francisco landmark, macOS Golden Gate continues Apple’s transition toward its own custom chips. The update is largely focused on Apple Silicon-powered Macs. Compatible models include the Mac Pro, Mac Studio (2022+), Mac mini (2020+), iMac (2021+), and any MacBook Air or Pro from 2020 onwards.

Notably, the newly announced MacBook Neo is also on the list, ensuring it will be ready for the new software right at launch.

Finally, for the Apple Watch enthusiasts, the requirements have shifted slightly. You’ll need an Apple Watch SE 3, Series 9 or newer, or either the Watch Ultra 2 or Ultra 3 to access the latest health and fitness tracking improvements.

While the stable versions won’t hit public devices until later this year, the developer betas are live now. If you aren’t a developer, it’s usually best to wait for the public beta next month to avoid those early-version bugs!
