Apple is Bringing Its First European Developer Center to Berlin
Berlin’s tech scene is about to get a massive boost. Apple has officially announced plans to open its very first European Developer Center right in the heart of the city’s Mitte district. Joining the ranks of existing hubs in Cupertino, Shanghai, Singapore, and Bengaluru, this new space is set to open its doors later this year.
A Hub for Innovation and Hands-on Support
So, what can developers actually expect? This isn’t just an office building; it’s designed to be a collaborative space where creators can attend specialized workshops and sharpen their skills across Apple’s entire ecosystem. Whether you’re building for the iPhone (iOS), iPad (iPadOS), Mac (macOS), Apple Watch (watchOS), Apple TV (tvOS), or the new frontier of XR with visionOS, there’s going to be something for you.
One of the most valuable features of the Berlin center will be the opportunity for in-person support. Developers can book one-on-one appointments with Apple experts to tackle specific coding hurdles or design challenges. The center will also house dedicated labs and consultation areas staffed by experts proficient in “multiple languages.” Apple didn’t specify if they meant spoken languages or programming languages, but in a global tech hub like Berlin, it’s safe to bet on both.
Expanding the European Ecosystem
While this is the first physical Developer Center in Europe, Apple has been quietly growing its footprint across the continent for years. They already operate the Apple Developer Academy in Naples, Italy, alongside Foundation Programs in both Italy and France. For those just starting out, Apple is also highlighting the App Store Small Business Program, which helps smaller teams keep more of their revenue by reducing commission rates to 15% for those earning under $1 million annually.
The move makes sense when you look at the numbers. Apple’s App Stores across Europe saw an average of 150 million weekly users last year—a massive audience that continues to crave high-quality, localized apps.
“Europe is home to an extraordinary community of developers who are building apps that create connections, encourage creativity, and drive innovation,” says Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. “We have always believed that when developers have the right tools and resources to do their best work, incredible things follow.”
With this new hub, Berlin is cementing its status as a premier destination for software engineers and creative entrepreneurs looking to make their mark on the global stage.
