Meet the Xreal Aura: Spatial Computing Gets a Major Android Upgrade

Xreal has just pulled back the curtain on its latest project, the Aura glasses. Unlike many of the restrictive headsets we’ve seen in the past, these are true spatial computing glasses powered by Android XR, meaning they arrive with a massive ecosystem of apps right out of the gate.

At the heart of the experience is an Optical See-Through (OST) display offering a 70° field of view. The visuals are driven by dual Sony Micro-OLED panels, boasting a sharp 1,920 x 1,200px resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The glass itself is transparent, keeping you connected to your surroundings, but Xreal has included electrochromic dimming, so you can dial back the real world whenever you need to lock in and focus on your work.

Multitasking in Mid-Air

For those who thrive on productivity, the Aura supports up to five floating application windows simultaneously. Since it runs on Android XR, you get full access to integrated tools like Gemini, making it a surprisingly capable wearable workstation.

To keep the headset lightweight, Xreal opted for a split design. The heavy lifting is handled by a dedicated “compute puck” housing the newly unveiled Snapdragon Reality Elite chipset. You’ll have a couple of power options, with configurations available in 12/256GB or 16/512GB capacities. The 4,455 mAh battery is also tucked away in the puck, ensuring the glasses don’t weigh heavy on your nose during long sessions.

Smart Tech Under the Hood

Inside the glasses, you’ll find the Xreal X1S spatial co-processor, which manages the low-latency sensor data and display tasks. The device features 6 DoF (Degrees of Freedom) tracking and onboard cameras, complete with a discreet LED indicator to alert bystanders when you’re capturing or scanning. When it comes to control, you can use voice commands via Gemini or switch to intuitive hand-tracking. For connectivity, the puck includes two USB-C ports—one for the glasses and another that supports external power or DisplayPort video input.

Pricing and Availability

With other players like Snap entering the arena with $2,000+ price tags, Xreal is playing it smart. While an official price hasn’t been locked in, the company has teased that the Aura will launch at under $1,500 before taxes.
