Siri AI for Everyone: Huge Updates Coming to iOS 27, macOS, and visionOS

The Rumors Were Right: Apple Just Reimagined Siri

It’s official. At this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple finally pulled back the curtain on what they’re calling the next generation of Apple Intelligence. The star of the show? A complete overhaul of Siri, now officially known as Siri AI.

For those who have felt Siri was falling behind the curve, this update is a massive leap forward. Apple is leaning on Google’s Gemini models to power a more conversational, intuitive assistant that actually understands context instead of just reciting web searches.

Privacy Meets Power

One of the biggest talking points is how Apple is handling the heavy lifting. Siri AI prioritizes on-device processing to keep your data local. When a task requires more horsepower, it taps into Apple’s new Private Cloud Compute. This ensures that even when your data hits a server, it’s never stored or accessible to Apple—or anyone else, for that matter. It’s a clever way to offer high-end AI without sacrificing the privacy-first reputation they’ve built.

The user interface is also getting a fresh coat of paint. You’ll now find Siri integrated into the Dynamic Island on iPhone, while iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 users will see it baked directly into Spotlight. Plus, there’s a dedicated Siri app that keeps a history of your past conversations, making it feel less like a one-off command tool and more like a continuous assistant.

A Siri That Actually Knows You

The new model is designed to be more expressive and incredibly accurate. Here are a few highlights of what it can do:

  • Personal Context: Siri can now browse your messages, emails, and photos to answer specific questions like, “When does my mom’s flight land?” or “Show me that photo of the menu I took yesterday.”
  • Systemwide Dictation: Dictation has been overhauled to automatically handle punctuation, capitalization, and formatting as you speak.
  • Visual Intelligence: Using the Camera app, you can point your phone at something to get instant info. You can even split a dinner bill using Apple Cash or get nutritional facts about the meal on your plate just by looking at it.
  • Cross-Device Sync: Your conversations and context stay in sync via iCloud across your iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro.

Leveling Up Your Writing and Creativity

Apple is also introducing Writing Tools powered by Siri AI. Whether you’re drafting an email in Mail or sending a text in Messages, Siri can generate drafts, refine your tone to match your usual style, and proofread your work. It’s even coming to most third-party apps, so you aren’t just limited to Apple’s ecosystem.

For the creative crowd, Siri AI can now generate and edit images. While this feature will have daily usage limits, those with iCloud+ plans will get expanded access to the generation tools.

The EU Catch: Why Some Users Will Have to Wait

It’s not all smooth sailing. If you live in the European Union, you might be waiting a while to get the full experience on your iPhone. While Siri AI will launch on macOS, watchOS, and visionOS in the EU, it’s currently blocked for iOS and iPadOS.

The reason? A standoff regarding the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Apple claims that EU regulators are asking for a level of data access for third-party assistants that would fundamentally compromise user privacy. Craig Federighi, Apple’s head of Software Engineering, noted that while they hope to eventually bring the service to the EU, there is currently no timeline for a resolution.

When Can You Get It?

Siri AI is slated to launch in beta later this year for supported devices set to English. Apple has promised that support for more languages is coming shortly after the initial release.
