Huawei nova 16 Ultra arrives with 200MP main cam and 7,000 mAh battery

Meet the Huawei Nova 16 Ultra: A Powerhouse with a Massive Battery and 200MP Camera

The rumors were true. Huawei has officially pulled back the curtain on its new Nova 16 series in China, and the lineup is led by a true heavy hitter: the Huawei Nova 16 Ultra. While the Nova series has traditionally balanced style and performance, this latest iteration leans hard into high-end specs that could give flagship competitors a serious run for their money.

The Battery That Won’t Quit

The standout feature here is undoubtedly the battery. Huawei managed to cram a massive 7,000 mAh cell into the Nova 16 Ultra. In an era where 5,000 mAh is the standard, this is a significant jump for power users who hate carrying a charger. When you do eventually run dry, the device supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, plus 7.5W reverse wireless charging for your accessories.

It’s not just about capacity, though. The phone is built to endure the elements with both IP68 and IP69 ingress protection ratings, meaning it’s highly resistant to water, dust, and even high-pressure steam jets.

A Display That Defies Direct Sunlight

On the front, you’re looking at a stunning 6.84-inch LTPO OLED panel. It offers a crisp FHD+ resolution and an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz) to save power when you’re just reading text but keep things buttery smooth when you’re gaming. The real kicker? It hits a staggering 6,000 nits of peak local brightness, making it one of the brightest screens on the market. Protection is handled by Huawei’s own Kunlun Glass, which has a solid reputation for drop resistance.

Pro-Grade Photography

The camera island on the back is hard to miss, especially with its unique vegan leather wrapping. The hardware inside is just as impressive:

  • Main Camera: A 200MP RYYB sensor (1/1.28”) with an f/1.8 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).
  • Telephoto: A 50MP lens (88mm equivalent) offering 3.7x optical zoom for sharp close-ups.
  • Ultra-wide: A 50MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture that doubles as a macro lens.

Selfie lovers aren’t left out either, thanks to a 50MP front-facing camera paired with a 1.5MP spectral sensor for better color accuracy and depth.

Performance and Satellite Connectivity

Under the hood, the Nova 16 Ultra runs on Huawei’s in-house Kirin 9010S chip, the same silicon found in the Pura 80. It ships with HarmonyOS 6.1, offering a fluid and deeply integrated user experience. Another highlight for those heading off the beaten path is the Beidou satellite communication support, allowing users to send and receive texts even when there’s no cellular signal in sight.

The Huawei Nova 16 Ultra is launching in three colors: Blue, White, and Black. Here is how the pricing breaks down for the China market:

  • 256GB Storage: CNY 4,699 (approx. $695 / €596)
  • 1TB Storage: CNY 5,799 (approx. $857 / €735)

Orders are expected to start shipping on June 6. While we’re still waiting for news on a global release, the specs alone make this one of the most interesting mid-to-high-range phones of the year.
