Oppo Reno16 Pro and Reno16 go official with 200MP rear camera

Oppo Reno16 Series Debuts: 200MP Cameras and Massive Batteries Take Center Stage

Oppo has officially pulled back the curtain on its latest Reno16 series in China, and it’s clear the brand is doubling down on high-end photography and marathon battery life. For now, the lineup features two main contenders: the Reno16 Pro and the standard Reno16. While they differ in size and raw power, both share a head-turning 200MP triple-camera system that is bound to grab the attention of mobile photographers.

Two Sizes, One Shared Vision

Choosing between the two comes down to how much screen real estate you prefer. The Reno16 Pro is the heavyweight, boasting a gorgeous 6.78-inch AMOLED display. Under the hood, it’s powered by the high-performance MediaTek Dimensity 9500s chipset. If you prefer something a bit more pocketable, the standard Reno16 features a 6.32-inch OLED panel and runs on the Dimensity 8550 Super SoC.

Despite the size difference, both screens are top-tier. We’re looking at a silky-smooth 120Hz refresh rate, 1.5K resolution, and an eye-watering peak brightness of 3,600 nits. Whether you’re under direct sunlight or scrolling in the dark, the high-frequency PWM dimming and in-display fingerprint scanners ensure the experience is as comfortable as it is secure.

A Camera Setup That Doesn’t Compromise

The star of the show is undoubtedly the rear camera module, which is identical on both devices. Oppo hasn’t gatekept the best hardware for just the Pro model here. You get:

  • 200MP Primary Sensor: Featuring an f/1.8 aperture and OIS for incredibly detailed, steady shots.
  • 50MP Periscope Telephoto: Also equipped with OIS, perfect for zooming in without losing clarity.
  • 50MP Ultrawide: A 116-degree field of view to capture expansive landscapes.
  • 50MP Selfie Camera: High-resolution front-facing hardware for sharp video calls and social-ready photos.

Battery Life and Fast Charging

Battery anxiety might become a thing of the past with these specs. The Reno16 Pro is packed with a massive 7,000mAh battery, supporting 80W wired and 50W wireless charging. The standard Reno16 isn’t far behind with a 6,700mAh cell and 80W wired charging support, though it skips the wireless option.

Both devices run on OriginOS 16 and come with a suite of modern essentials like 5G, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and an IR blaster. They also carry an impressive IP69K rating for serious dust and water resistance. One small edge for the Pro model is the inclusion of Wi-Fi 7, while the standard version sticks with Wi-Fi 6.

Pricing, Colors, and Availability

The Reno16 Pro comes in three sophisticated finishes: Dreamy Blue, Heart-Fluttering Stars, and Moonlit Night Black. It starts at CNY 4,499 (approx. $660) for the 12GB/256GB version, scaling up to CNY 5,299 ($780) for the 16GB/512GB powerhouse.

The standard Reno16 swaps Dreamy Blue for a vibrant Galaxy Purple, alongside the Stars and Black options. It offers more storage flexibility, starting at a competitive CNY 3,499 ($515) for the base model, all the way up to a 1TB monster for CNY 4,899 ($720).

Pre-orders are already live in China, with official sales kicking off on May 29. While there is no word yet on a global release, the Reno series usually finds its way to international markets shortly after its Chinese debut.
