Samsung is now blocking apps that spam your notifications with ads

Sick of Notification Ads? Samsung’s New Device Care Update Has Your Back

We’ve all been there. You hear your phone buzz, expecting an important text or a calendar reminder, only to find a distracting ad for a random game or a ‘limited time offer’ from an app you barely use. It’s annoying, it’s intrusive, and frankly, it makes using your phone feel like a chore.

Samsung seems to have heard the collective sigh of frustration from Galaxy users. The latest update to the Device Care app (version 13.8.80.7) is rolling out a new feature designed specifically to hunt down and silence these digital nuisances.

How Samsung is Silencing the Noise

The update introduces a more aggressive approach to notification management. Instead of just letting apps flood your screen, Device Care can now detect and block apps that spam your notification area with ads. When the system identifies a serial offender, it automatically tosses the app into ‘Deep Sleep.’ This essentially paralyzes the app’s ability to run in the background, ensuring it won’t bother you again until you decide otherwise.

The feature offers two main levels of protection:

  • Basic Blocking: This uses a pre-vetted list of apps that Samsung has already flagged as frequent ad-spammers. If one of these is on your phone, Device Care keeps it on a short leash.
  • Intelligent Blocking: This is the smarter, more proactive option. It constantly monitors your incoming notifications, looking for patterns that suggest an app is being too pushy with ads. If it detects a trend, it steps in and shuts things down.

A Proactive Approach to Privacy

Samsung does include a small disclaimer that its ‘intelligent’ detection might not be 100% accurate every single time. However, for most users, a false positive is a small price to pay for a cleaner, quieter notification shade. While you can always manually uninstall apps or dive into settings to tweak notification permissions yourself, having an automated system handle the heavy lifting makes the One UI experience feel much more refined.

When Can You Get It?

Device Care is a staple of the Samsung ecosystem, so you likely already have it installed. However, there is a catch: early reports suggest this specific anti-spam tool is currently showing up on devices running One UI 8.5. While the update is currently rolling out, it might take a few weeks to reach every region and device model. Keep an eye on your Galaxy Store updates—your peace and quiet might only be one download away.
