Samsung clarifies the timing for the One UI 9 beta, debut set for the upcoming Galaxy Z launch

Samsung Clears the Air: Here’s the Official Timeline for the One UI 9 Beta

If you were left scratching your head after Samsung’s first announcement about the One UI 9 beta, you aren’t alone. The original English press release was a bit light on specifics, leaving many of us wondering exactly when we could get our hands on the Android 17-based software. Thankfully, a new update from Samsung’s Korean newsroom has filled in the blanks, giving us a much clearer roadmap for the rollout.

Who Gets It First? (The Two-Wave Rollout)

Samsung is sticking to its traditional testing grounds, but the release is happening in two distinct phases. If you’re in one of the first-wave countries, you could see the update hit your device as early as this week.

  • Wave 1 (Launching Now): South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
  • Wave 2 (Starting May 26): Poland and India.

Essentially, users in Poland and India have about a two-week wait ahead of them before the doors open to the beta program. It’s a slight delay, but it usually means any initial show-stopping bugs will be ironed out before it reaches those regions.

How to Join and Which Devices Are Supported

Currently, the “VIP list” for this beta is exclusive to the latest flagship trio:

  • Samsung Galaxy S26
  • Samsung Galaxy S26+
  • Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra

If you own one of these and live in a supported region, the process follows the usual routine: open the Samsung Members app, look for the One UI 9 beta banner, and register. Once you’re signed up, the update will arrive as a standard over-the-air (OTA) download.

Wondering about the S25, S24, or even the S23 series? Don’t worry, they haven’t been left in the dust. Those devices are currently busy with the stable One UI 8.5 release, as are the current Galaxy Z foldables. Older flagships typically join the beta party a few weeks after the S26 series testing stabilizes.

The Road to Android 17

One UI 9 is built on the foundation of Android 17, and Samsung is timing the official software debut to coincide with the next generation of Galaxy Z foldables. While the company hasn’t circled a specific date on the calendar for the next Unpacked event, history tells us that July is a very safe bet. This aligns perfectly with Google’s own timeline, as the stable version of Android 17 is expected to be a major highlight at Google I/O, scheduled for May 19-20.

Stay tuned as we continue to track the new features and design changes Samsung is packing into this major update.
