Is the Galaxy S27 Ultra Camera Shakeup Actually Happening?

Back in April, whispers started circulating out of Korea suggesting that Samsung was planning a major aesthetic overhaul for the entire Galaxy S27 lineup. The rumored goal? A total redesign of the camera island to clear space for integrated magnets, finally bringing native magnetic wireless charging to Samsung’s flagship tier.

Shortly after that, speculative renders hit the web, painting a picture of a radically different Galaxy S27 Ultra—one that dropped a sensor, moving down to a triple-camera setup. But if the latest reports are anything to go by, you might want to hold your excitement. According to a new leak, Samsung hasn’t actually locked in any of those designs yet.

The rumored radical camera layout might just be a concept, not a plan.

The latest word suggests that the prototypes we’ve seen circulating online are off the mark. While Samsung is reportedly weighing several different design paths, the “simple horizontal layout” previously depicted simply isn’t in the cards. It seems the design team is toying with more intricate, complex layouts, but nothing is set in stone.

What’s Next for the S27 Ultra?

Perhaps the most interesting takeaway is the possibility that Samsung might scrap the radical overhaul entirely. There’s a chance the company will stick to the tried-and-true vertical camera housing, merely trimming one lens to streamline the module. If that happens, the S27 Ultra might end up looking a lot more like the base S26 or S26+ than its immediate Ultra predecessor.

We are still very early in the development cycle, so everything is subject to change. As always, leaks this far out are best treated as placeholders rather than blueprints. Samsung clearly has a few tricks up its sleeve, but for now, the final look of the next Ultra remains anyone’s guess.
