Is a New Redmi Note 17 Global Model and Poco M8 Plus Coming?

Redmi is gearing up to unveil the Note 17 series in China later this month. If you’re based outside of China, don’t hold your breath just yet—history tells us that the global rollout could be several months away. More importantly, these international versions often undergo significant tweaks, making them distinct from the Chinese models we see at launch.

We’ve just spotted some intriguing activity from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Two new devices have popped up in certifications: a Redmi phone (model number 2607DRA18I) and a Poco handset (2607DPC18I). Given Xiaomi’s track record of rebranding hardware for different markets, it’s highly likely these are just two sides of the same coin.

Current speculation suggests the Redmi model is the upcoming global Note 17, while the Poco device is the successor to last year’s Poco M7 Plus, dubbed the Poco M8 Plus. Interestingly, Redmi is skipping the ’16’ branding entirely, mirroring a move previously made by its parent company, Xiaomi.

What to Expect Under the Hood

While we are waiting to see how the global specs stack up against the Chinese release, the initial leaks for the Chinese version are pretty impressive. Rumors point toward a massive 6.83-inch flat display with 1.5K resolution, powered by the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 processor. Perhaps most exciting is the chatter about a hefty 9,000 mAh battery paired with 67W fast charging and a 50MP primary camera.

Will these premium specs survive the transition to the global market? Only time will tell. For now, it’s clear that Xiaomi is preparing a strong mid-range lineup that could shake up the budget-to-mid-tier competition once these devices officially land in global markets.
