Is the iPhone 18 Pro Max Finally Getting a Battery Boost?

Rumors have been swirling for a while now that the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max is poised to feature the largest battery capacity ever packed into a non-folding iPhone. If fresh leaks are to be believed, we might finally have the hard numbers to back up that claim.

According to the latest reports, there will be a clear split in capacity based on regional hardware requirements. Much like last year, the eSIM-only variant is expected to house a larger 5,425 mAh battery, while the version featuring a physical SIM card slot will settle in at 5,235 mAh.

Comparing the Capacity

Of course, it is important to treat these numbers with a bit of healthy skepticism until official word drops. That said, if this holds true, Apple is positioning the iPhone 18 Pro Max to surpass the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, which currently relies on a 5,000 mAh cell.

To put those potential gains into perspective, let’s look at the generation prior. The current iPhone 17 Pro Max packs a 4,823 mAh battery in its physical SIM model and 5,088 mAh in its eSIM-only version. If these leaks are accurate, we are looking at a notable jump:

  • Physical SIM Model: An increase of 412 mAh.
  • eSIM-Only Model: An additional 337 mAh.

While Apple has historically prioritized efficiency over sheer battery size, these incremental jumps suggest a shift in strategy. A bigger battery could be the game-changer power users have been waiting for, especially for those who push their devices with heavy photography or gaming sessions throughout the day. We’ll be keeping a close eye on further updates as the release window approaches.
