First Look: Getting Our Hands on the Global Oppo Reno16 Pro

Oppo is officially rolling out the Reno16 series to the international market, and we’ve just unboxed the star of the show: the Reno16 Pro. If you’re comparing it to its Chinese counterpart, it’s worth noting that the global version is more of a sibling to the Chinese Reno16 rather than the Chinese Reno16 Pro. While the Chinese Pro boasts a larger 6.78-inch footprint, the global Reno16 Pro keeps things compact with a 6.32-inch display.

What Sets Them Apart?

Navigating the naming conventions can be tricky, but the differences between the global Reno16 Pro and the standard Reno16 are significant. The Pro steps up with a Dimensity 8550 Super chipset, a massive 200MP main camera, and 12GB of RAM as the baseline. The standard Reno16, by contrast, settles for a 50MP shooter and a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor, with RAM options depending on your region.

Design That Catches the Light

Design-wise, both phones share the “3D Pop Planet” aesthetic. Oppo is pushing their new “HoloVerse 3D” tech here, which creates a nebula-like shimmer that shifts as you move the phone. Beyond the flashiness, the practical design choice to slope the camera island into the back panel is a nice touch—it effectively eliminates those annoying dust-trapping edges that plague so many modern smartphones.

We also have the return of the AI Snap Key on the upper left edge. Think of it as a dedicated capture button that shoots directly to your “AI Mind Space.” If that’s not your speed, it’s fully customizable to launch your camera, toggle the flashlight, or open your favorite app—a small hardware detail that adds surprising utility.

Performance and Daily Use

On the display front, the Pro offers a buttery-smooth 144Hz refresh rate, while the standard Reno16 hits 120Hz. While high-end gaming is where you’ll really notice that gap, both devices feel incredibly fluid. ColorOS remains as snappy as ever, and Oppo is making a bold claim: they promise the Reno16 Pro will retain that snappy, lag-free experience even after six years of heavy use.

What’s in the Box?

The Reno16 Pro is available in “Pop White” and “Starlight Black,” with storage configurations up to 512GB. Pricing kicks off at a promotional €900, with the price scaling to €1,100 after the introductory period ends on July 31. Inside the box, you’ll find the essentials: the phone, an 80W fast charger, a USB-A to C cable, and a protective clear case to get you started.
