Xiaomi 17T unveiled with 5x periscope, Xiaomi 17T Pro joins it with a 7,000mAh battery

Xiaomi Skips a Beat: The 17T and 17T Pro Arrive with Massive Battery and Camera Upgrades

Xiaomi has officially jumped the number 16 in its T-series, leaping straight from last year’s 15T lineup to the brand-new Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro. While the name jump might be a bit confusing, the upgrades under the hood are anything but. We’re looking at significant improvements in zoom capabilities, display tech, and some of the largest batteries we’ve ever seen in a mainstream flagship.

The Xiaomi 17T: Compact Size, Massive Zoom

Perhaps the most surprising news is that the base 17T is actually getting a bit more pocket-friendly. It now features a 6.59-inch OLED display, down from the 6.83-inch panel on its predecessor. But don’t let the smaller footprint fool you; this screen is a beast, pushing 1268p+ resolution with a blinding 3,500 nits of peak brightness and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate.

The real star of the show, however, is the camera. Xiaomi has finally brought a 50MP 5x periscope lens to the vanilla model. This is a monumental jump from the 2x module on the 15T. With in-sensor zoom, it hits a 10x “optical-grade” reach and can even handle macro shots from just 30cm away. It’s paired with a 12MP ultra-wide and a 32MP selfie camera, ensuring you’re covered for every angle.

  • Chipset: Dimensity 8500 (4nm)
  • Battery: 6,500mAh (an 18% increase over last year)
  • Charging: 67W wired

The Xiaomi 17T Pro: The Endurance King

If you prefer a larger screen and even more power, the 17T Pro keeps the 6.83-inch display but cranks the refresh rate up to 144Hz. It also adds an ultra-dim mode that can drop down to just 1 nit—perfect for late-night scrolling without the eye strain.

But let’s talk about the battery. Xiaomi managed to cram a 7,000mAh silicon-carbon battery into a chassis that’s only 8.3mm thick. That is a staggering amount of juice for a phone this size. To keep it topped up, you get 100W HyperCharge (wired) and 50W wireless charging support. Under the hood, the Dimensity 9500 chipset promises a 32% boost in single-core performance, making this one of the snappiest phones on the market.

Leica Optics and Professional Video

Both models continue the prestigious Leica partnership, featuring Summilux lenses and optical image stabilization (OIS). The Pro model specifically uses the larger 1/1.31” Light Fusion 950 sensor, which excels in low-light conditions thanks to its 1.2µm pixels. New software tricks like “Stage Mode,” “Leica Live Moment,” and 4K 60fps HDR10+ recording mean these phones are clearly aiming for the mobile cinematography crown.

Connectivity and Colors

Xiaomi hasn’t skimped on the extras either. Both phones feature stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and the new Xiaomi Offline Communication tool. The Pro model takes things a step further with Wi-Fi 7 and Dual-Bluetooth support, while the standard 17T sticks with Wi-Fi 6E.

You can pick these up in several sleek finishes:

  • Xiaomi 17T: Black, Deep Blue, and Deep Violet.
  • Xiaomi 17T Pro: Black, Blue, Violet, and a stunning Opal White.

Price and Availability

Quality like this comes with a slightly higher entry fee. The Xiaomi 17T starts at €750 (12/256GB), while the 17T Pro begins at €900. To help soften the blow of the €100 price hike over last year, Xiaomi is bundling some serious digital perks, including three months of YouTube Premium, Spotify Premium, and Google AI Pro (which comes with 5TB of cloud storage).

Alongside the phones, Xiaomi also dropped a suite of new accessories, including the Watch S5, Smart Band 10 Pro, and the Buds 6, rounding out a very busy launch day for the tech giant.
