Apple’s sleep apnea notifications and hearing test features are now available in India

Apple Brings Game-Changing Health Features to India: Sleep Apnea and Hearing Tests Are Here

Apple is doubling down on its commitment to personal health by officially launching two of its most anticipated features in India: Sleep Apnea notifications and the clinical-grade Hearing Test. These tools, which recently gained regulatory clearance in various markets, are now available to Indian users, turning the Apple Watch and AirPods Pro into much more than just lifestyle gadgets.

Tracking Your Rest: Sleep Apnea Notifications

Sleep apnea is often referred to as a “silent” condition because many people have no idea they are stopping and starting their breathing throughout the night. If left unchecked, this can lead to serious long-term health issues like hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and cardiac stress. Apple’s approach to identifying this condition relies on a clever metric called Breathing Disturbances.

  • How it works: Your Apple Watch uses its built-in accelerometer to detect tiny, subtle movements at the wrist. These movements indicate interruptions in your normal respiratory patterns during sleep.
  • The analysis: Instead of a one-night snapshot, the watch analyzes this data every 30 days. If it detects consistent signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea, it will notify you, providing a report you can take directly to your doctor.
  • Device compatibility: This feature is supported on the Apple Watch Series 9, 10, and 11, as well as the Ultra 2 and Ultra 3.

A Hearing Clinic in Your Pocket

For those using AirPods Pro 2 or the newest AirPods Pro 3, checking your hearing health is now as easy as taking a five-minute test from your couch. Apple’s new hearing test is based on pure-tone audiometry, the same standard clinical approach used by audiologists.

The experience is designed to be seamless. Once the test is complete, you receive a detailed summary in the Health app, including an audiogram and a specific classification of your hearing levels in each ear. All of this data is stored privately and securely. To access this, you’ll need your AirPods paired with a compatible iPhone or iPad running at least iOS 18 or iPadOS 18.

Expanding the Health Ecosystem

India isn’t the only region seeing these updates. Apple has also been busy expanding its global health footprint, recently introducing Hearing Aid features in Italy and Hypertension notifications in Taiwan. As wearable technology evolves, Apple is clearly pivoting toward making the Apple Watch and AirPods essential tools for proactive, everyday healthcare.

By bringing these features to India, Apple is giving millions of users the ability to monitor their well-being with clinical-grade accuracy, potentially catching health issues before they become emergencies.
