Insta360 Go 3S Retro Bundle removes the digital display, adds a waist-level optical viewfinder
Ditch the Screen: The Insta360 Go 3S Retro Bundle is All About That Analog Vibe
Let’s be honest: smartphones have basically buried the point-and-shoot camera market. Yet, despite having 4k-capable lenses in our pockets, we’re collectively obsessed with the past. Whether it’s digging out old CCD sensor digicams from the early 2000s or spending a small fortune on film development, people are craving a more tactile, intentional way to capture memories. Insta360 clearly got the memo.
After dipping their toes into the vintage aesthetic with the Ace Pro 2 “Flash Print” kit, they’re now taking things a step further with their tiniest camera yet. Meet the Insta360 Go 3S Retro Bundle—a package that strips away the high-tech digital display and replaces it with something much more nostalgic.
The Return of the Waist-Level Viewfinder
The centerpiece of this new bundle is the Retro Viewfinder. Instead of the usual Action Pod with its flip-up touchscreen, this is a passive, decidedly analog dock. It features a waist-level viewfinder—the kind you’d see on a vintage Rolleiflex or Hasselblad—and a simple selfie mirror on the front. It’s about as low-tech as it gets, and that’s exactly the point.
There’s no screen to distract you or menu to scroll through while you’re in the moment. As Insta360 puts it, the goal is to encourage a “more intentional approach to photography.” It forces you to slow down, frame your shot through the glass, and actually look at the world rather than a digital preview.
Vintage Film Styles at Your Fingertips
Of course, the hardware is only half the battle. To really sell the retro look, Insta360 is rolling out 11 built-in color profiles. This includes five specifically film-inspired styles: NC, CC, GR-F, Mono, and Vintage Vacation. If you want to lean even harder into the aesthetic, there are exclusive filters for Negative and Positive film, and even a Sticker Filter for that scrapbook feel.
Getting your footage off the device is also pretty slick. The bundle includes an NFC Custom Skin. Just tap the camera to your phone, and the Insta360 app pops open automatically so you can preview, edit, and share your shots without digging through settings.
What’s Under the Hood (and in the Box)?
Since you’re losing the Action Pod, you might worry about battery life. The pod usually acts as a remote and a charger, so Insta360 swapped it out for a dedicated Battery Pack. This little addition doubles the Go 3S’s runtime to about 76 minutes of video recording. You can keep it attached for a full day out or go “naked” with just the camera unit to keep things incredibly light.
The bundle also includes:
- The Magnet Pendant: For those effortless first-person POV shots.
- Easy Clip and Strap: More ways to wear your camera.
- Lens Guard: Pre-installed to keep that glass pristine.
- Two Storage Options: 64GB or 128GB.
Is it Worth the Switch?
Here is where it gets interesting: the Retro Bundle is actually cheaper than the standard Go 3S package. The 64GB version starts at $250 (€280), while the 128GB model hits $270 (€300). Compare that to the standard package, which usually runs $350 or $380, and you’re looking at a significant saving.
The catch? You don’t get the Action Pod. If you rely on that digital screen for precise framing or remote control, the Retro Bundle might feel like a step back. But if you’re looking for a camera that feels less like a gadget and more like a creative tool—all while saving some cash—this might be the coolest action camera release of the year. You can find both the Canvas White and Classic Red versions over at the Insta360 online store now.
